We had an incredible visit from the Hondurian NGO Hibueras, that works together in Honduras with the Comparte Foundation from Barcelona. They have shown us their child and community-based social awareness projects, and the progress they have achieved so far through donations from companies such as PBS.
NGO Hibueras coordinator, Candelario Reyes, explains that the aim of the organization is to provide quality academic and social education to young children and youths, in order to end the cycle of poverty. They form teams which focus on culture and communication, amongst other aspects, to create leaders within the communities. He says that, for Hibueras, the key to success is preparing the people to become protagonists.
Hibueras together with Comparte Foundation also work to combat child abuse/neglect in Honduras through comprehensive programmes such as, fighting poverty, malnutrition, school-attendance, fear and abuse, and as such achieve medium and long-term reductions in violence. EDUCAPAZ, a pedagogical guide to teaching about peace, brings together numerous activities dedicated to conflict resolution and a peaceful existence.
Claudio Lavanchy, the director of Comparte Foundation, shows us what has been achieved through PBS’ latest donation. The ‘Programme for the Patepluma women’s and children’s health in Santa Barbara, Honduras’ is a project currently under-way that ensures the right of children and mothers in rural communities in Santa Barbara, to access health care. The objectives are to equip 5 pediatric wards, provide mother-child services and set up a clinical laboratory. An estimated 8080 people will benefit from this project, once completed.
